We're so pleased to introduce Africa Tette, the gifted, creative mind behind Global Treasures Handmade Accessories. She joined our Beaded Jewelry Facebook group a few months ago, and we've really enjoyed seeing the work that she shares there.
Thank you so much for your patience this month, as we had a snafu create a later than usual post. Africa was happy to step in and create six brand new pieces for us to share made with her Halcraft Collection beads in just a few days! She's truly amazing and we're grateful for her willingness to step it up for us!
Africa is relatively new to the beading world, and she's making her mark one necklace and bracelet at a time. One thing we've really enjoyed is seeing the pieces she makes for men, as inspired by her son who modeled her pieces for photos. Read on to learn more about Africa and what makes her tick as well as sink your eyes into her beautiful jewelry!
When did you first start beading?
I started beading three years ago. I always wanted to try beading, so I decided to start by creating a few pieces of jewelry for the women at church. They really liked the pieces that I created for them and encouraged me to go further into jewelry making.
I've always been involved in art in some way or another, so if there is anything that has to do with creating and designing, I'm all for it. Fashion is something that I have always wanted to be involved in. Anything that has something to do with helping a person feel good about themselves I feel is worth me trying my best to be a part of helping achieve it.
Do you have a jewelry business?
I do! The name of my business is Global Treasures Handmade Accessories and you can find me on Facebook. I decided to start my business a year ago, January 1, 2018. I decided to start my business after I started to get an overwhelming amount of special orders.
Then I started to participate in a lot of events and that helped me business become more successful. I've also created an Instagram account to share my work. You can find me on Instagram as africatette_.
Have you finished a project recently that you really loved? What made that one special?
One of my favorite projects that I completed was a special order. I had to create seven bracelets for seven women in my male customer family for Christmas gifts. It was time consuming but I enjoyed every minute of it. I enjoyed the thought of creating these beautiful bracelets for my customer because I know how much these women mean to him. Once I sent him the photo of the bracelets, his smile was priceless when he came to pick them up. (See photo to the right.)
What are some of your favorite beads or components on the Halcraft Collection website?
I really love the variety of beads and components on www.HalcraftCollection.com. Some of my favorite beads and components on Halcraft Collection website is the shell pendants and the shell and pearl beads selection. I seen a lot of beautiful shell pendants and shell and pearl beads selection.
Where do you get your beading inspiration? What most inspires you?
I get my beading inspiration from other jewelry designers. Seeing other designers create beautiful pieces inspires and motivates me. Seeing how pleased my customers are when they receive their pieces inspires me. Beading is also therapeutic for me. I love to create jewelry!
If you had room for only two tools in your bead kit, what would they be?
If I had room for just two tools in my tool kit it would be my flush cutter for wire and round-nose pliers.
What are your favorite beading techniques and materials?
I like to do my beading by hand, tiny or big, it doesn't matter. I don't use any special tools or needles to bead. I enjoy taking my time beading, I don't like to feel rushed. I like to use Beadalon wire and supplies. I feel its a great brand to use and it holds very well with the weight of the jewelry.
What jewelry trends are you excited to incorporate into your beadwork?
The jewelry trend that I'm excited to incorporate into my beadwork is more inspirational pendant bracelets. I already create inspirational bracelets but I would like to create more of them because it's one of my biggest sellers.
