April 2020 Pretty Palette Reveal with Molly Schaller
Bodhi in Sanskrit translates to "enlightened" or "awakened." So the bodhi seed is the “enlightened seed.” Bodhi is also a term in Buddhism to describe a Buddha's understanding of the true nature of things.
The April Pretty Palette was inspired by pops of yellow and bold, graphic lines. Shell beads and bodhi nut beads are the stars of this earthy bead kit.
This Pretty Palette design started exactly where you might have thought it would: the amazing black, white, and yellow marquise-shaped shell beads. I considered stringing them, but I decided to make the most of them and their sisters, the flat black and white shell marquise beads, by using them on head pins in the Graphic Glow Necklace (below). There is a LOT of texture and quite a few beads with lines of one sort or another in this Pretty Palette, so I had to be sure to let these special shell beads shine. I chose the matte black rectangles for between the fancy beads as a strong, plain base, then I pulled the linear motif back into the design with the carved beads that continued the rest of the necklace. I love how it worked out!
I continued with the same strategy to ensure a balance with the patterned beads with the Graphic Glow Earrings. The leaf connectors are fantastic components with a scrolling vein-like pattern on one side and a brushed vein pattern on the other. Each leaf has two loops, one at the top and one at the tip, making it an extremely versatile component in many designs. I used the bold scrolling side in the earrings with a cluster of looped drops at the top and a single red drop at the tip. The large matte bodhi nut rounds are some of my favorite beads. They're so lightweight, and their silky texture is the perfect foil for the busy-ness of the leaves and sparkling beads around them.
My strategy of pairing a few bold beads with some more plain ones worked so well that I carried it on into the bracelet stack. The Graphic Glow Bracelet stack features fantastic carved bodhi beads, which are known to bring a sense of peace and wellness to those on a path to enlightenment.
