Pretty Palettes :: October Reveal --Bling It Forward with Modern Talisman

October 18, 2018

We women have the tendency to take care of everyone else, to make everyone happy, but ourselves. So I hope that you took some time for you, this month. Time to relax. Take a walk. Get a pedicure. Make some art. Chat with a friend. Or maybe you got a screening. Whatever makes you feel alive and happy. Know that you are worth it and that you should build time into your busy life for more of it! This month I did have a pedicure while my daughter was getting a manicure. I danced and laughed at a wedding with some family. I painted canvases for a fundraiser and then got the chance to go to the event to see a community supporting the arts. And I just celebrated my 24th wedding anniversary with a special dinner with my love. I may not have been particularly focused on getting things done, but I really had some great experiences that made for wonderful memories. Clearly, I need to build more times like these into my life. How about you? someone-happy-poster I thought about what I could make that would be something to fulfill the pay it forward idea put forth in the challenge and it came to me in a flash. I wanted to make something that would be useful and fun while also reminding the women in my life that they are indeed important and worthy. I thought that every woman seems to carry a big purse these days so what better idea than to bling it up! I used an assortment of Halcraft Collection for these purse fob/key chain combos. The messages on the metal connectors are positive and uplifting, perfect for a reminder to a friend about how important they are. 20161019_124656_picmonkeyed_picmonkeyed I am forever losing my keys in my pit of a purse. Anyone else have that problem? The large key ring allows for attaching keys, and the HUGE lobster claw clasp makes it easy to attach to the outside of a purse so those keys won't get lost! They could be made in a lot of different colors - great way to use up those odds and ends! - but I decided to keep it to silver with touches of pink and purple. I grouped them by the charms.... feathers of hope... angels and clouds of belief... and the transformative power of dragonflies for a survivor. I call these Bling It Forward. And I will be doing one more thing that I do for me... paying it forward is something that brings me great joy. I want to give one away to a lucky random reader! All you have to do to be entered is to leave a comment on this post answering either one of the following questions: 1::What did you do just for YOU this month? 2::If you were to make some accessory (or you did make something - yea!), one to keep and one to giveaway, who would you share it with and why? So just leave a comment below and you will be entered into a drawing. I will announce the winner at our next Pretty Palettes inspiration on November 2nd.

Now for something special and heartfelt from our friend Erin Strother.... I didn't want to go pink for this month's challenge. First, because I don't particularly like pink, and second, because I think it's become somewhat cliché. I opted, instead, for serenity, with a totally neutral palette of white and metallics. modern-talisman-whitelr

I thought the message in this piece should be something uplifting and positive for the wearer, so I chose charms and stones that spoke to me as talismans of inner peace, hope, energy and protection. Feel free to customize the charms so they have the strongest personal meaning for you. You may prefer a religious icon, angel wings, an affirmation charm or even a lightening bolt. And don't forget to add something unexpected. I used a small crystal point as the toggle bar of the clasp, and also wire-wrapped a tiny crystal onto the front of the leather bale. (It's a little hard to see in the photo.) Thoughtful details like this are what will elevate your gift above anything you could buy at a store, ensuring the recipient will cherish it always. Now it is your turn! We would love to hear your stories of what you made and who you will be gifting it to. We would love to know how you are planning to take care of yourself and encourage other women to do the same.
